As an environmental engineer at Bedford, Indiana, you will have the opportunity to champion the air, waste, and water compliance programs and be responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk. You will work cross-functionally with diverse groups to create and implement best-in-class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across the site.
Job Overview
- Focus on driving consistent environmental stewardship programs in support of GM’s mission to deliver sustainable solutions that improve the communities in which we live and work.
- Build bridges by engaging with our Business Partners and environmental leaders to enable success for the organization, ensuring the achievement of Business Plan goals and objectives, as well as meeting regulatory compliance requirements.
- Engage with the Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies to ensure implementation of robust environmental programs and to build relationships that support innovation and expedient resolution of concerns.
- Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems in support of GM’s mission to deliver data-driven solutions that allow us to operate efficiently now and in the future.
- Monitor environmental parameters and progress to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, stormwater management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs, to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance.
- Interface with business partners and regulatory agencies to prepare required regulatory documentation and reports, and schedule and perform compliance testing.
Additional Description
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, and/or Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements.
- Experience in environmental engineering or related science, preferably at a manufacturing operation.
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering or related sciences with emphasis on environmental engineering preferred.
