We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Electrical Engineer within our Battleground Plant located in La Porte, TX.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Focus on the safety and health of our employees, communities, and customers and protect the environment in the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products.
  • Develop the Electrical Distribution System Maintenance program in accordance with company guidelines, codes, and regulations.  Work with the maintenance group to implement the program.
  • Develops, updates and tracks action plans pertaining to program tasks.
  • Provides ongoing reporting of program activity status to plant management.
  • Arranges for contract services support for program-related activities as required.
  • Review facility electrical maintenance activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to all specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Performs formal and informal audits of the program elements to ensure compliance to all applicable codes and standards.
  • Maintains current knowledge of company and agency rules and regulations.
  • Evaluates capital project scopes and vendor proposals for new equipment purchases.
  • Conducts failure mode analyses to identify units posing excessive failure risks and supports proposed changes in design.
  • Assists in the training/coaching of hourly personnel in repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Ensures Process Safety and Risk Management objectives are practiced daily through participation in the Management of Change, Process Hazards Analysis, Process Safety Hazard Hunter, and pre-startup safety review responsibilities.
  • Provides OxyChem electrical standards, guidelines, and procedure training to others as the opportunity arises.
  • Act as a technical resource for Maintenance of transformers, rectifiers, Chlorine cell room electrical equipment, power generation, power distribution systems, electric motors, and uninterruptible/backup power supply systems.
  • Provide cost estimating and engineering proposals on routine replacement of equipment to correct maintenance problems or for the improvement of processing equipment. Supervise the installation of such equipment.
  • Played a lead role in creating and managing the electrical portion of the routine maintenance budget.  Track and effectively use the capital budget as it relates to electrical maintenance and upgrade projects.
  • Review drawings to ensure that designs meet the technical needs of the project and adhere to industry standards for reliability and safety.
  • Manage projects including identification, scope development, design review, schedule, implementation, and commissioning of electrical projects.
  • Work with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and upgraded projects.
  • Work well in a team environment, balance multiple electrical projects, and establish and maintain relationships with internal departments and vendors.

 
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering.
    • 5 years of electrical engineering experience required. 7+ years experience preferred
  • Experience in refining or chemical plant environment preferred
  • Power Plant or Cogen experience is a plus.
  • Power rectifier experience is a plus
  • Good written and oral communication skills required.
  • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs., and climb ladders and stairs.  Walking, bending, and stooping is required.  Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.  Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NEC and other applicable codes relating to electrical engineering and high voltage systems is desired.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards is desired.
  • Experience with electrical distribution, including medium voltage, high voltage, and DC systems
  • Actual experience in design/maintenance of plant electrical systems desired.
