The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing control system engineering and related technical expertise for industrial processing, manufacturing, mining, and fuel facilities. Work will involve integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive industrial control systems.

Tasks will include working with a team to design, configure, and commission industrial control systems for mining, manufacturing, power, and fuel clients. Control system design will involve the development of piping and instrumentation diagrams, industrial network design, control panel layouts, bills of materials, specifications, and other related deliverables. Configuration includes programming controllers, configuring parameters for integrated equipment such as motor control devices, and simulating code in a lab before deployment. Commissioning consists of supporting clients remotely and on-site to successfully implement the control system, including planning, troubleshooting, training client staff, and working with vendors to integrate equipment.

This person will assist internal teams with proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets. This person will also be responsible for managing projects, providing technical leadership, and managing teams to meet client needs, as well as coaching and mentoring less-experienced staff. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, mechanical, or chemical engineering
  • Proficient in Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 programming
  • Proficient in SCADA and HMI application development
  • 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering, system integrator, equipment manufacturer, or industrial organization
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Inductive Automation's Ignition software
  • Knowledge and experience with industrial manufacturing, mining, power, and/or fuel industries
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation PlantPAx and FactoryTalk View SE
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills
  • Knowledge and experience related to electrical installations in hazardous areas
  • Strong client-relationship and business development skills

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Hibbing, or Duluth, Minnesota, offices.

NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
