Come make history with Campbell's! In this role, you will bring your employee relations skills in addition to your ability to build relationships at all levels and departments within the plant. You will be the primary contact for our hourly workforce bring thought leadership and execute proactive employee engagement activities and programs.

General Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources this generalist role will have responsibilities surrounding hourly recruitment and retention, training and development, wage administration, hourly performance management, employee safety and wellness, benefits administration, and positive employee relations.  In addition, the incumbent is responsible for supervising and developing direct reports, leading/managing certain compliance activities i.e. Affirmative Action, and leading/supporting continuous improvement initiatives aimed towards meeting both the plant’s and organization’s overall goals and objectives.

Principal Accountabilities (list in order of importance and indicate the percentage of time spent on each)

80% - Daily HR Operations – Lead, manage, and or/support the following HR processes and Supply Chain initiatives:

  • Lead year-round recruiting process surrounding full-time and temporary hourly positions across the plant.  Source a diverse slate of well-qualified candidates, schedule and conduct interviews, and select the most qualified applicants for full-time and temporary hourly positions.
  • Maintain a positive employee relations environment by responding to employee relations issues and bringing them to resolution.  Conduct thorough and prompt investigations, interpret and explain Company policy, coach employees and supervisors, and determine and execute disciplinary action that is administered fairly and consistently.
  • Actively participate in improving the employee relations climate by supporting employee engagement activities such as developing and implementing diversity and inclusion activities and by developing and supporting plant recognition and awards systems/programs.
  • Drive employee learning and development by developing and facilitating a variety of training programs/systems and workshops/seminars for supervisors, managers, and hourly employees.  Support the identification of plant and individual training needs and creation of a curriculum focusing on managerial/supervisory development, diversity and inclusion, new hire selection process, objective setting, etc.  
  • Manage the entire performance management process for all hourly and temporary employees, in close and constant collaboration with managers and supervisors, through the Hourly Performance Management Program. 
  • Conduct an annual survey of prevailing hourly wages in the local area and prepare a formalized hourly wage recommendation for the plant’s entire hourly population. 
  • Provide leadership and act as a resource for plant safety initiatives and compliance as well as lead and or participate on plant safety teams and committees.  Oversee benefits administration for hourly and salaried employee populations.  Assist employees in resolving benefits issues, communicate benefit changes, and support the Annual Enrollment process.
  • Oversee and administer WorkKeys assessments as well as mechanical and electrical assessments for internal and external applicants.
  • Oversee SAP security rights requests with Corporate for hourly and salaried employee populations. 
  • Assist employees and managers in resolving issues related to security requests with the Corporate Help Desk.
  • Assist the Manager, and HR in planning and implementing key strategic, change management, and process improvement initiatives (High-Performance Work Systems, Pepperidge Farm Manufacturing System, Training within Industry, etc). 
  • Assist the Manager, HR in managing external temporary agencies across multiple sites which may include wage recommendations, responding to employee relations issues/conducting investigations, and labor forecasting.   

20% - Internal & External Compliance – Manage and support the following compliance activities:

  • Manage and support the development of the Bloomfield location’s annual Affirmative Action Planning activities including plan development and resulting action plans in compliance with Company and EEOC guidelines.
  • Drive compliance with FMLA and ADA regulations as well as all other applicable state and federal laws.
  • Develop and interpret Company policies and procedures including providing counseling in the plant’s hourly attendance policy.
  • Serve as a liaison between employee and insurer for Disability and Workers’ Compensation case management as well as interacting with community physicians, nurses, and physical therapists to promote employee health and wellness in the case management process.

  • Must interpret Company policy and resolve complex employee relations issues in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Must possess the interpersonal savvy necessary to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization – from hourly production workers to Vice Presidents.  Must tailor the message and presentation style to fit the audience.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize based on business needs.  Must align plant projects/initiatives with Company goals, in order to drive organizational alignment. 
  • Must serve as a resource during compliance reviews and audits by regulatory agencies, including the EEOC, Ohio Human Relations Commission, etc.
  • Must partner with key operational stakeholders to determine appropriate crewing levels and source diverse qualified candidates.
  • Must serve as a change agent and help employees accept organizational change.  Must actively support and help drive Lean transformation, High-Performance Work Systems, and Training Within Industry implementation.
  • Must drive the performance management process for all hourly employees, meeting all timelines and other deliverables.
  • Must stay current with respect to both internal and external factors impacting the plant’s workforce, including new or revised Company policies, developments in employment law, pending legislation, etc., and support the communication of these changes to the appropriate stakeholders.

Job Specifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job)

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree a strong plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of previous Human Resources generalist experience, in an environment with a large population of hourly employees working different shifts (e.g. manufacturing plant, distribution center). Prior experience in the food manufacturing/consumer product industry is desired. 
  • PHR or SPHR certifications are a strong plus.
  • Strong Human Resources generalist background with a comprehensive working knowledge of employee relations, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication abilities.  Must demonstrate active listening and strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated business savvy.  Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Lean principles and initiatives, including 5S programs and standard work development.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.  Prior WorkDay, Kronos, and SAP experience are preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team environment that operates on a 24/7 schedule.  The position requires an individual to work different schedules and varying hours. 
  • Proven track record of delivering excellent business results under demanding timetables.

Working Conditions

The working environment includes both office and plant floor settings.  Exposure to industrial noise, forklift traffic, moving mechanical parts, and temperature extremes occur in operating areas of the plant.

Compensation and Benefits:

The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between 

$61,800-$97,800

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k, and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
