Job Description:

The Program Manager is a highly visible and strategically-oriented position. The Program Manager is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and executing an extensive program management regimen aimed at maximizing the business potential for BorgWarner. Much focus is placed on developing relationships with new customers and enabling new business opportunities. Working at all levels of the organization, the incumbent builds a business case for new programs while gaining the commitment of Staff members to allocate the necessary resources. The Program Manager provides management direction for customer programs, focusing on launch management, cost management, customer intelligence, and communications. The leadership activities associated with this position are team-oriented and include planning & defining projects, product design & development, process design & development, product & process validation, and initial production performance validation.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provides program management for customer programs, focusing on (1) the effective oversight of product launches, (2) vigilant cost containment, avoidance, and reduction throughout a product's life cycle, and (3) a comprehensive communications plan.
  • Works with all levels of the organization to build a case for the program and gain the commitment of Staff members for allocating the necessary resources.
  • Interacts with customer teams to help develop and lead programs designed to satisfy customer demands.
  • Serves as program owner, accountable for the execution and success of the program, which includes meeting the program's financial targets.
  • Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for the planning, organization, budget, integration, and completion of prototype programs within the company.
  • Develops programs from inception through start-of-production and beyond if needed. 
  • Leads customer program teams through the established BorgWarner Program Management process. This includes strategic programs involving planning and defining objectives, product design and development, process design and development, product and process validation, and initial production performance validation.
  • Drives the APQP process to meet cost, timing, and delivery objectives in a TS16949 environment; ensures that internal and external documentation requirements are met.
  • Creates and manages program timelines to meet critical milestones.
  • Effectively manages financial outcomes of the programs.
  • Ensures customer team members are trained on BorgWarner's Program Management process when needed. 
  • Establishes and maintains communications as needed with both customer personnel and senior BorgWarner management.
  • Effectively presents high-level information to senior BorgWarner management and customers. 
  • Ensures that inquiries or issues brought forth by customers and internal personnel are handled in a timely and effective manner.
  • Develops positive relationships with customers and facilitates effective product launches.
  • Creates an environment in which it is "easy" for our customers to to do business with BorgWarner now, and motivates them to award new business to us in the future.   
  • Recognizes, identifies, and drives changes & improvements to the BorgWarner Program Management process. 
  • Reports program status to Management. 
  • Understands, analyzes, and interprets financial reports and engineering documents & data.
  • Understands and adheres to current quality and control policies. 
  • Understands and adheres to current health, safety, and environmental policies. 
  • Use of required PPE; following safety rules and procedures and training others; compliance with plant code of conduct.
  • Attendance at safety and health training sessions
  • Housekeeping practice.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

         EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • BSME or BSEE or Bachelor’s in Business 
  • A Master’s Degree in Business or Engineering is preferred.
  • 3 years experience in the automotive industry.
  • Some travel, including overseas travel, is required.

  • Highly developed organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong PC skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Good knowledge of the automotive industry and customers.
