Job Description:

This position will report to the Senior Director, Power and Energy, and will have primary responsibility for leading the development of CyrusOne’s onsite generation program. The onsite generation program is focused on both baseload generation and backup/emergency generation solutions. This position’s key objective is to accelerate CyrusOne’s time to market in situations where grid power delivery is delayed.

Onsite Generation Program Leadership:

  • Develop and lead CyrusOne's onsite generation strategy
  • Lead project management of onsite generation projects interacting with CyrusOne Location and Power Strategy, Construction, Engineering, Procurement, and Environmental teams
  • Develop and provide onsite, baseload generation solutions utilizing primarily natural gas as a fuel
  • Develop strategy for baseload onsite generation to transition to baseload/backup emergency power solutions
  • Develop and maximize revenue optimization strategies for onsite generation via demand response, ancillary services, and energy arbitrage market opportunities
  • Develop and lead strategy to transition away from diesel backup/emergency onsite generation

Natural Gas Supply Management and Infrastructure Development:

  • Lead discussions with local distribution utilities and interstate pipelines to secure and contract natural gas infrastructure for supplying onsite generation solutions.
  • Work with 3rd party energy market advisor to contract and hedge gas risk exposure per CyrusOne energy price risk management program.
  • Maintain natural gas supply agreements and natural gas transport arrangements

Site Selection:

  • Support natural gas supply inquiries for all data center development projects
  • Support location site analysis with respect to natural gas infrastructure availability and onsite generation viability
  • Analyze the natural gas situation at prospective sites (utility, tariffs, capacity, geography, etc.)

Cross-Functional Support:

  • Support communication of energy and sustainability efforts across multiple areas of the organization (Sales, Construction, Operations, customer support)
  • Research and respond to general power and generation questions for clients

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of onsite generation solutions
  • Strong understanding of natural gas distribution/transmission and the ability to negotiate natural gas connection agreements
  • Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating with internal staff, utility providers, consultants, and external stakeholders

Experience Skills:

  • 6-8 years experience with generation and/or energy supply management
  • Experience with complex energy contract negotiations
  • Experience negotiating natural gas utility/pipeline extension and connection agreements
  • Financial or energy engineering experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects and collaborating with internal staff, utility providers, consultants, and external stakeholders
  • Experience with communication including communicating commercial, regulatory, market, technical, and contractual details to all organizational levels
