Role Summary

This role is responsible for executing on the strategy for the design and delivery of high-performing user experiences for AlaskaAir.com, our mobile apps, kiosks, employee tools, and more. As a people leader, the Manager of Product Design leads, and coaches team members to design complex experiences from concept to execution, resulting in high-quality visual and interactive elements that bring our brand to life. This position has a focus on the interaction design and strategy of our guest or employee facing digital products.

Key Duties

  • Manage and coach a diverse Design team made-up of not limited to Product, UI and Visual Designers, Researchers and UX Writers.

  • Actively manage the recruiting, hiring and retaining of top design talent as full-time resources or through an agency.

  • Partner and influence across teams, including product management, UX research, analytics, business stakeholders, and software engineering to align product roadmaps, vision, and strategy.

  • Collaborate with other Design leaders and teams on our Design System to evolve the program and to ensure consistent experiences across digital products.

  • Drive the vision for accessible, responsive solutions that marry evergreen and time-sensitive experiences.

  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with critical stakeholders in the business to ensure alignment on digital experiences.

  • Present to leaders and teams across the company the work Design is doing and discuss user-centered strategies to support end-user and business needs.

  • Create and participate in Design thinking workshops and activities to educate teams about the user-centered design process and being insights-driven.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.

  • Shape culture through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in Design or related field.

  • 2 years of leadership experience – leading people or projects.

  • Strong experience in visual and UI design.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Effectively communicate ideas to a range of stakeholders and audiences through presentation and storytelling.

  • Strong understanding of Design Systems – how to build, leverage, and maintain.

  • Significant experience with Lean UX and agile product development.

  • Working knowledge of creative tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite. Miro, Maze).

  • Strong conceptual and visual thinker, leveraging storyboards and mockups to communicate complex ideas.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex design efforts simultaneously.

  • Hands-on skills or good knowledge of a spectrum of design: UX, interaction design, UI design, graphic design, motion and animation, and UX Research.

  • Keeping up with current design trends and best practices and technology innovation.

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in elevating a brand’s visual language into digital experiences.

  • Demonstrated experience taking projects from concept to delivery and ongoing optimization.

  • Strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience in the airline industry.

  • Experience working with staff augmentation via outside vendors.

Salary Range

$139,700 - $209,500 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
