Job Overview:

This position is responsible for leading the accounting and analysis of UNFI’s critical accounting areas, including assessments of significant transactions, new accounting standards, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures accounting, and stock-based compensation. This position is highly visible throughout the organization and candidates must be able to coordinate and manage projects, be proactive, and be deadline-focused. This position will work with cross-functionally with various finance teams on the financial reporting and accounting impacts of transactions and changes to UNFI’s evolving business and financial measurement and reporting systems. This position will have a growth mindset to drive organizational change, implementing and advocating the implementation of leading practices, where applicable. In addition, this role will assist with disclosures under US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and regulations.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

·       Responsible for the accounting and reporting associated with complex accounting areas, such as stock compensation, LIFO reserves, derivatives, goodwill and long-lived asset impairment reviews, and pension accounting.

·       Research and analyze US GAAP and SEC regulations to ensure transactions are accounted for and reported in accordance with reporting requirements, including mergers and acquisitions, debt and treasury activity, revenue recognition, investments, and other matters as they arise. Document accounting conclusions in formal memos and work with external auditors to support accounting positions. Partner with accounting and finance personnel, and external auditors, to identify, assess, and conclude on complex accounting matters.

·       Execute assigned special projects timely and accurately, including driving projects to achieve company goals.

·       Assist with disclosures and provide support, as needed, for external reporting processes, including 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K filings, by contributing to preparing financial statements, footnotes, and management discussion and analysis.

·       Lead the implementation and monitoring of new accounting standards and assist with managing policies and changes to those policies from new standards, businesses, and transactions.

·       Performs other relevant job duties as required.

 Job Requirements:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or equivalent related field

·       CPA or equivalent qualification with US GAAP experience required

·       5-8 + years of Accounting experience

·       Some travel may be required, including weekend travel

·       Experience working in public companies and on their related SEC filings

·       Experience in understanding, implementing, and keeping current on technical accounting guidance

·       Project Management and/or system implementation experience preferred

·       Supervisory experience

·       Expert technical knowledge of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures.

·       Excellent business writing, communicating, and analytical skills

·       Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail

·       Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities

·       Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

·       Effective time management skills, ability to prioritize assignments and consistently meet deadlines

·       Excellent PC and related spreadsheet application skills

·       Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management

·       The ability to work effectively in a high-growth environment and a rapidly changing organization
