The Mechanical Engineer for Beckman Coulter Life Sciences is responsible to provide Mechanical Engineering and Project Management support for sustaining projects for all Life Sciences manufactured products within Miami.  Candidate will represent all technical aspects around mechanical components and assemblies in working with new supplier relationships.  He/she will modify technical documentation as necessary, lead design change plan processes, manage project timing, communications with suppliers and all other technical/project management requirements in order to meet/exceed the financial cost savings assigned to the team for year over year savings. 

This position is part of the Procurement Engineering located in Miami, Florida and will be onsite. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.

You will be a part of the Procurement Engineering team and report to the Manager, Procurement Engineering responsible for sustaining life science projects.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and define scope of design changes needed to drive conceptual supplier transitions into captured cost savings projects.
  • Utilize knowledge of materials, machining, molding, fabrication, assembly methods and proper part/component design concepts to define qualification requirements.
  • Update and maintain product documentation BOM’s, drawings, and specifications as needed using the Miami documentation control process.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • BSME/BSMET degree with 2 - 5 years of experience in a product engineering support or design/development engineering role with demonstrated proficiency in: GD&T definition and interpretation; Multi-component tolerance analysis; Solidworks CAD and/or CAE ; Ability to design for and recognize fabrication methods and techniques; Design for part interaction; Establishing detailed bill of material BOM
  • Experience with in depth problem solving techniques and methods preferred.
  • Experience with project leadership in managing design change activity, executing DFMEA analysis, developing DOE’s, developing and executing supporting test verification protocols, leading technical reviews activity, and coordination with procurement and suppliers
  • Ability to work in an engineering team environment and clearly communicate technical status of assigned projects. Team-minded with ability to build excellent working relationships with suppliers and colleagues.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience in dealing with design changes in a structured design control/change environment for medical devices preferred
  • Drives for results - Is action-oriented and has a sense of urgency. Can be counted on to establish high expectations, drive change, multi-task, and have impact.
