The Impact You’ll Make in this Role.
The Data Security Architect will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the security posture of our sensitive data throughout its lifecycle. Reporting to the Chief Security Architect Cybersecurity, the successful candidate will lead the effort to secure our sensitive data environments, identify vulnerabilities/classification issues, and develop enterprise design and solutions to mitigate risks. This role requires a deep understanding of data protection and platform security technologies, security frameworks, enterprise security architecture, and data protection industry best practices.

  • Lead the design and implementation of comprehensive data security architectures, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our data assets.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and data science teams to establish and enforce data security controls, encryption, access management, and data masking techniques.
  • Conduct regular assessments of data environments, identifying vulnerabilities and proposing remediation strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Develop and maintain data security policies, standards, and guidelines that comply with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Implement mechanisms for data classification, retention, and disposal, ensuring compliance with data privacy requirements.
  • Design and oversee data loss prevention (DLP) solutions.
  • Provide guidance on database security, including secure database configurations, authentication mechanisms, and auditing.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and cloud teams to integrate data security into cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Stay updated on emerging data security threats and trends and recommend proactive security measures.
    Lead data security awareness and training initiatives for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors and partners to evaluate the security of data-related solutions and services.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher from a (completed and verified prior to start) and a minimum of sixteen (16) years of experience in Information Technology (IT)

  • Ten (10) years of enterprise security architecture expertise in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Five (5) years of Data Security background in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master's degree in Information Technology or Cybersecurity from an accredited institution
  • Experience with database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and their security configurations.
  • Familiarity with cloud data security principles and practices, especially in cloud-based data storage and processing.
  • Strong understanding of data security principles, data protection regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in data encryption technologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The expected compensation range for this position is $155,615 - $190,196, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
