JOB SUMMARY:

The Southern Company Gas EDGE Organization’s objectives are:

· To enhance the overall value of the company with the implementation and adoption of Data-Driven Decision Support through:

o Leadership of an enterprise strategic data governance process.

o Leadership of an enterprise strategic data management team.

o Governance of the production of high quality, immutable data (Golden Records) on which critical decision support platforms can rely – Strategic Data.

o Governance of the strategic intelligence logic and platforms that produce all decision support information for the business.

o Driving the evolution and improvement of corporate decision-making through new methods, technologies, logic, and concepts.

· To establish and govern Strategic Data as a Corporate Asset across the enterprise by

o Facilitating organizational alignment with a data and information-driven decision-making culture.

o Establishing and Maintaining Sponsorship and Support at all organizational levels.

o Implementation of long-term training and implementation programs for data and information literacy.

· To implement a clean, clear source of data on which future generations of AI (Artificial Intelligence) can build new insights for the Enterprise and provide Strategic Decision Support Counsel to the Leadership of the Company.

The Business Analyst is responsible for executing their tasks as assigned related to supporting these objectives:

This position may be filled as Business Analyst II (GSE03), Business Analyst III (GSE04) or Business Analyst Senior (GSE05). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education, and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functional Expertise:

· Solutions Management

o Provide key input and deliverables to business units within Southern Company Gas business operations in support of the day to day and strategic planning activities of the company.

o Gather, Analyze, and recommend approaches to Decision Support Needs related to Executable Reports, Indices, and KPI's.

o Produce & support day-to-day maintenance of all Decision Support Requirements Documentation and models.

o Document new indices, KPI Reports, or other Decision Support capabilities.

o Support other teams on implementation issues related to the interpretation of requirements.

o QA (Quality Assurance) and Test for all Decision Support Solutions.

o Documentation and Maintenance of Decision Support Solutions Register (indices, KPIs, Reports) in production.

o Process creation and documentation - Support Training and Change Management activities.

· Functional Design

o Support critical data and information services and guidance activities to business units within Southern Company Gas business operations in support of day-to-day and strategic planning activities of the company.

o Working with the business to understand their data, and the architecture of their data, assess the quality of the data, and propose potential solutions on how to better gain insights.

o Assessment of the solutions being used.

o QA Component of the data and the deliverables we are providing the business.

o Gather, Manage, Analyze, and Recommend Decision Support Requirements related to an Enterprise Logical Data Model.

o Manage and Maintain Assignment and Ownership of Physical Sources for Logical Data Model Data.

o Design and Build Ongoing Changes and enhancements to the Logical Data Model

o Design all Decision Support related Logic, Output, Rules, Error/Gap Management, and Scoring Specifications.

o QA and Test for all Decision Support Extraction, Storage, and management Solutions.

· General

· Provides input and supports cost and resource estimates and plans used in the annual budget cycles.

· Participates in EDGE project-related assignments as required.

· Demonstrates good working knowledge of the business information requirements, day-to-day business processes and overall business data flows related to one of the following key business areas:

o Financial

o Organizational

o Operations and Supply Chain

o Enterprise Asset Lifecycle Management

o Customer, Marketing and Revenue Management

o Corporate and Regulatory

· Demonstrates working knowledge of the business applications, data management flows and enabling technology platforms related to one of the following key solution areas:

o GIS

o Work and Asset Management

o Customer Management

o Financial Management

o Supply Chain

o HR (Human Resources) Management

o Network Operations

o Specialized business support applications as required.

Business Acumen:

· Serves as a contributor for specific projects and assignments as required.

· Executes and reports on work plans and milestones for assigned projects and day-to-day activities.

· Defining and new requirements for the decision support organization related to new versions of the decision support platforms and applications.

· Assists management in decision support by improving access to performance metrics and reports while adhering to data and analytics governance.

· Perform internal audits to ensure processes are followed correctly.

· Analyzes and interprets data to identify process gaps.

· Work with various stakeholders to implement process improvements.

· Maintains the data integrity in the business data and works with IT (Information Technology) and the business to resolve issues.

· Analyzes financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions.

· Provides application support/planning in the areas of fact-finding, installation, testing, and follow-up for the development of new and upgraded decision-support solutions.

· Participates in testing and implementation of enhancements and new solution projects at an enterprise level.

· Coordinates with the Training Department to capture end-user impacts resulting from the implementation of enhancements and innovative solutions.

· Assesses and proposes tasks and resources that need to be included in the work plan.

· Proactively reviews current data and analytical trends to understand the impact to the current state at the enterprise level.

· Evaluate and recommend the selection of new tools and technology by staying current on business and solution architectural trends and emerging technologies to provide recommendations and direction to the TO in the development and delivery of solution strategy, platforms, and applications.

Engagement:

· Assist with coordination and implementation of special projects as assigned (e.g., Management of Change).

· Provide various support to employees and contractors (e.g., technical business support in web and mobile applications).

· Review the GLS (Gas Leak Survey) web application and reports daily– identify errors and work with the TO to correct them accordingly.

· Review decision support solutions – identify errors and collect feedback to make it a more successful and effective platform.

· Identify, document, and propose application enhancements to EDGE Organization Leadership.

· Test application upgrades in all systems associated with Decision Support and Data Governance.

· Complete deliverables on time and within any other assigned constraints.

· Lead specific team efforts to identify solutions to issues as assigned.

· Develop and maintain client relationships with assigned business units at the enterprise level to ensure a balance between standardization and jurisdictional differences.

· Support and advise on the tasks and deliverables of their team members.

· Collaborates with other team members, TO, and business staff to resolve issues.

· Develops and maintains productive working relationships with key business and TO staff, as well as external solution and advisory vendor staff.

Driving Results:

· Communicates any process or data gaps that could impact compliance or other mission-critical deadlines.

· Responsible for driving individual results, prioritizing work, evaluating results, and taking corrective action as needed.

· Execute work in accordance with internal controls and governance requirements and in compliance with policies and standards. Understand, execute, and propose improvements to all components of methodologies utilized.

· Supports and monitors the development process deliverables as a key interface to the TO on all EDGE solution-related Deliverables.
