The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
 

As an Application Engineering Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leads daily bench-to-bench technical collaborations with leading customers to develop applications of 3M solutions that enable customers’ future-generation devices.
  • Explores customer design needs and translates into material specifications that guide internal new product development and support commercialization success.
  • Broadens insights into consumer electronics customer and industry design trends, identify business opportunities, and influences internal product and technology roadmap development.
  • Collaborates with global and cross-functional teams and coordinates actions to match customer project timelines and solve application challenges promptly
  • Operates and leverages local application lab to expand collaborations with customers

Your Skills and Expertise 
 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in Polymer/Material Science, Chemical Engineering, and/or Mechanical Engineering and Seven (7) years of product or application development of tapes or liquid adhesives, mechanical design or assembly process development of electronics devices experience in a private, public, government or military environment. 

OR

  • Ph.D. degree in Polymer/Material Science, Chemical Engineering, and/or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution and Three (3) years of product or application development of tapes or liquid adhesives, mechanical design or assembly process development of electronics devices experience in a private, public, government or military environment. 

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experiences in collaborating with customers or suppliers and running high-complexity projects as a leader or key contributors
  • Familiar with consumer electronics devices and industry players
  • Skills in teamwork, communication, and presentation

Work location: 3M local application lab in Bay Area

Travel: May include up to 30% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

The expected compensation range for this position is $155,615 - $190,196, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental and vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.
