This position is responsible for supporting the Risk Management and Insurance function by managing, collecting, and evaluating data needed for this department. This position will report to the Manager, of Risk Management and will support the Manager, the Director of Risk Management, and other Risk Management colleagues as needed. This Risk Management Analyst role will focus on the casualty programs but will work with property insurance, the captive, and special projects as needed. The role will provide supplemental support to our RMIS system administrator by managing data, creating reports and data visualizations, and could also work with surety.

Overall, this role will provide risk and insurance management services to Southern Company and subsidiaries: promoting safe, efficient & economical operations; protecting corporate financial integrity & stability; and achieving the long-term lowest cost of risk. Job accountabilities will include risk identification & analysis; commercial property & liability insurance/ risk financing plan design, procurement & administration, and advising Southern Company business units on appropriate risk treatment measures including risk assumption, transfer, loss prevention & mitigation or avoidance.

This job will be located in Atlanta, GA, and has the potential to be both in-person and hybrid. Some travel (up to 20%) is required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )

  • 3 years of corporate risk management, underwriting, or brokerage experience is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Risk Management & Insurance preferred

  • Experience with Risk Management Information Systems (RiskMaster a plus) preferred

  • CPCU, AIC, ARM, CIC, CRM or equivalent risk management professional designation preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Office Suite

  • Proficiency with Excel is required

  • Demonstrates ability to work well with others in a collaborative and fast-paced environment

  • Good knowledge of Risk Management, casualty and property insurance placements, and some general knowledge of claims management\facilitation

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Demonstrates ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Experience in providing quality internal/external customer service

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

For assigned insurance programs:

  • Coordinate all aspects including compiling, verifying, comparing, summarizing, and presenting required underwriter information to management for review and submittal

  • Negotiate the appropriate coverage terms, limits, and retentions; negotiate policy provisions; review policy terms and conditions for accuracy & completeness of ongoing administration of corporate insurance coverages.

  • Develop and apply allocation methodologies, verify and ready invoices for processing for timely payments

  • Coordinate & review certificates or proofs of insurance with third parties, monitor and verify the financial condition of insurers

Other activities:

  • Review and analyze contracts between the company and outside vendors and suppliers; evaluate risks and advise procurement/ supply chain personnel, attorneys and function management on contractual risk and insurance provisions and/ or other risk mitigation measures and assist in negotiations as requested to optimize the Company’s risk profile

  • Identify and evaluate risks associated with ongoing operations or new/ emerging exposures and recommend appropriate risk treatment methods

  • Special projects as assigned from time to time by the Manager, Risk Management or Director, Risk Management

  • Reporting, handling and negotiating (with insurance company adjusters) certain insurance related claims which fall under your responsibility. At times, acting as liaison between client company claims handling personnel and insurers

  • Backup support for our RMIS system and utilize system for data analysis and visualization support

  • Assist and eventually take on the lead for the insurance premium and departmental budgets

  • Utilizes and works with senior analyst, brokers, experts, and industry peers to develop an in-depth knowledge of risk transfer best practices

  • Participation in industry and professional activities/organizations and continuing professional development
