Job Description:
Composites Project Engineer – Dorset - Permanent - up to £55,000 per annum
Navis Consulting are working with a leading manufacturer of large composite structures with sites across the South West of England. They offer a comprehensive composites manufacturing service from design and engineering to parts production and final assembly. Their clients include; BAE, Rolls Royce, Airbus, Sunseeker, and Siemens. They are looking to expand their clientele within Defence, Aerospace, Marine, and Automotive.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead projects from conceptualization to delivery, ensuring efficient coordination.
- Manage commercial aspects, including estimating project costs.
- Cultivate and maintain strong customer relationships through effective account management.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and existing production programs, collaborating closely with customers.
- Mentor and guide junior team members.
- Oversee and approve the work of other engineers.
- Develop inventive manufacturing solutions for composite parts.
- Possess a strong understanding of diverse and complex tooling, including the ability to approve the design of tool sets.
- Input new items, maintain BOMs, load sales orders, and ensure accurate delivery notes in the MRP system (Progress +).
- Establish clear project requirements with customers prior to manufacturing initiation.
- Develop Engineering Management plans, including scheduling and resource estimates.
- Create comprehensive work instructions and manufacturing manuals for composite parts and assemblies.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials through direct procurement or delegated procurement activities.
- Collaborate effectively with the quality team to ensure compliance with Customer & Regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in advanced composite part manufacturing methods and strategies.
- Project-manage component manufacturing across the factory and with external suppliers.
- Coordinate part production on the shop floor, working closely with production supervisors.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of shop-floor equipment, including Autoclaves and ovens.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant technical and quality areas.
- Negotiate variations to contracts/jobs as necessary.
- Keep the accounts department informed about invoicing, WIP, and assist in overdue payment follow-up.
- Demonstrate competent IT skills and CAD proficiency (Siemens NX or Solidworks highly beneficial) to analyze models.
- Occasional travel within the UK and overseas.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications:
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in Composite and GRP materials and manufacturing processes.
