Job Description:

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Fixed Equipment to join our Fixed Equipment Mechanical Integrity and Asset Reliability teams. As a Senior Fixed Equipment Engineer, you will be responsible for providing support and direction in the design, installation, maintenance, and integrity of fixed equipment and pressure vessels across the HF Sinclair operational profile. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality and safety guidelines. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of fixed equipment design principles, engineering codes, and standards, the ability to apply those standards to a diverse set of situations, and a proven track record in solving complex problems.

Job Duties

  • Provide leadership and advise site teams of fixed equipment engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of fixed equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and piping systems.
  • Conduct technical assessments and review inspections of existing fixed equipment to identify potential risks, failures, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, project management, engineering, and procurement, to establish and assure preventive maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Perform and review fitness-for-service evaluations, corrosion reviews, damage mechanism assessments, and remaining life analyses to determine the suitability and reliability of fixed equipment.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations for new installations, repairs, and modifications of fixed equipment.
  • Partner with sites to develop strategic engineering solutions for chronic and sporadic equipment reliability problems and work with technical, production, and maintenance to implement solutions. This would include helping build and upgrade inspection and maintenance procedures and auditing to ensure improvements are sustained.
  • Monitor industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to fixed equipment design and maintenance and implement best practices accordingly.

Experience

Broad experience (at least 10-15 years) of mechanical integrity program support, management, or refining fixed equipment engineering roles with a strong emphasis on the technical engineering of equipment design, construction, repair, and replacement within the refining or petrochemical industry.

Education Level

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, corrosion and materials engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

A Master's or Ph.D. degree is preferred.

Required Skills

Technical expert in area of specialty. Advanced ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes and apply knowledge analytically. Strong knowledge of Microsoft products and commonly used engineering concepts and experience with engineering software. Familiarity with standards and practices of the specific discipline. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.

Work Conditions

Office and plant-based with up to 20% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, and out-of-doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions, and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures, weather, and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences,  required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance required. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping.
