Communications Design is responsible for telling OpenAI’s story and educating the world about our values, research, and products by building and maintaining the company's brand identity. Our goal is to do it beautifully, accessibly, and with transparency and authenticity.

Our small and nimble in-house design studio plays a crucial role in infusing creativity and clarity into our communications, serving as a bridge across all company teams to craft authentic experiences. This fosters connections with our diverse stakeholders at every touchpoint.

The dedicated team within this studio includes designers, producers, front-end, and full-stack engineers, who work collaboratively across all non-product surfaces, such as openai.com, ensuring a cohesive and impactful presentation of our products, research and brand.

About The Role

The Comms Design team is looking for a dynamic leader with a strategic mindset, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to build strong relationships across teams to ensure that our creative operations run smoothly, efficiently, and with a high level of excellence.

As the Head of Creative Operations, you will spearhead the establishment and continuous improvement of workflows and processes to ensure the delivery of excellence with predictability at scale. Your focus will be on resource management, tool optimization, and developing strategic solutions for current project needs and future growth.

This role is based in San Francisco, California. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In This Role, You Will

  • Oversee Resource Management: Manage resources across the creative, interactive, and design teams. Collaborate with leadership to devise strategic resourcing solutions for both current and future projects.
  • Build Relationships: Foster strong connections with creative and design team members to understand their skills and experience, ensuring optimal project assignments.
  • Assess Projects: Independently evaluate project requirements against comprehensive, cross-functional creative briefs, making talent decisions that benefit all stakeholders.
  • Drive Innovation: Develop new team structures, workflows, and innovative approaches to address complex creative challenges.
  • Plan Capacity: Track and report on resource capacity planning. Support long-term planning with Creative Leadership and Program Management Leads to build teams, frameworks, and systems that best support key initiatives, campaigns, and projects.
  • Support Onboarding and Recruitment: Assist in the onboarding and immersion of new hires. Facilitate contractor recruitment by coordinating interviews and meetings, conducting candidate outreach, and managing contractor relationships.
  • Optimize Tools: Enhance the effectiveness of our toolset (e.g., Airtable, Asana, Google Drive) and develop processes for efficient organizational planning workflows.
  • Improve Processes: Work with internal and cross-functional teams to simplify, unify, and streamline processes and tools to boost productivity.
  • Coordinate Reporting and Analytics: Oversee periodic reporting on team output and key metrics, manage work plans, analyze data, and ensure the implementation of recommendations.
  • Develop Standards: Establish capacity planning, scoping, and roadmap planning standards across design functions.
